Sports at Cardinal Newman

There’s been plenty to celebrate in the world of Cardinal Newman sports over the past few weeks!

Last weekend, our Year 5/6 Girls made history by competing in the Surrey Schools Swimming Association Gala—a first for Cardinal Newman! The girls participated in both the medley and freestyle relays, demonstrating outstanding determination and resilience in the face of tough competition. Their positive attitude and readiness to take on this new challenge was truly commendable.

Meanwhile, our Year 5 football team took on the Royal Holloway Football Tournament in Egham. They battled hard throughout the event, finishing top of their group and advancing to the quarter-finals! Though a nail-biting penalty shootout with Grovelands didn’t go our way, the team's sportsmanship and respect for others were widely praised by the opposing schools. We couldn’t be prouder of their efforts!

Lastly, a huge congratulations to both the Girls’ and Boys’ football teams who played against St. James’ this week. Both teams gave their all, resulting in two impressive victories: the Girls triumphed 7-1, while the Boys secured a 6-0 win. Fantastic performances all around!

Well done to all our athletes—your hard work and sportsmanship are truly inspiring!
