Travelling Book Fair
Following the huge success of our Autumn Term Travelling Book Fair, we are glad to announce that it will be returning on Monday 5th until Friday 9th February. As always, this will be a great opportunity for children to explore reading for pleasure and extend their own book collections. It is also a fantastic chance for the school to receive funds to purchase books for our own library. Due to the fantastic engagement with the Book Fair last year, we were able to purchase over 100 new books that children had requested.
The fair will run from 3:20 each afternoon in Red Class. We are hoping to also run the Book Fair in the library from 4-6:30 on Tuesday and Thursday during Parent Consultations; a great way to celebrate your child's successes from the last term.
Each class will have an opportunity to visit the book fair during the week and think about any books they may wish to purchase. The full range of books that will be available for sale can be found here

We will be accepting the following methods of payment:
- Card
- Cash (where possible we ask you to bring the correct change)
- Mobile payments - we will have QR codes displayed at the book fair which you can scan to make payment
- Follow the link: https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay and pay for your books ahead of time. Simply show a member of staff your confirmation and we will be happy to hand the books over. The cut-off date for online payments will be the evening of Thursday 8th February.
Other Information
If your child attends Whizz Kids we will provide an opportunity to visit the book fair. You can order your books ahead of time, purchase gift vouchers from the scholastic website or send your child in with money. If you are sending money in with your child, please ensure it is in a sealed envelope with the child's name/class/book choices and total cost written on the envelope. Please only send in correct change.
Please note, that if we run out of certain books at the fair, we will be able to place an order for most titles to be delivered at a later date.
Thank you for your continued support with reading at our school,

Blue Peter Badge for Music
Achieving a Blue Peter Badge for Music is a simple yet rewarding activity, with children receiving an amazing badge designed by Ed Sheeran AND free entry to over 200 attractions across the country. By just writing a little about their passion for music, and parents completing the details, children can receive this unique badge, and Mrs Kareem is hoping as many children as possible make the most of this opportunity. Please complete the below form, and let the office know your child has applied, so Mrs Kareem and the school know to congratulate your child when their badge comes through! Application form here and FAQ attached below.

OPAL playtimes
Huge thanks to the 99 parents who completed the OPAL Survey. It is invaluable to have an insight into what you and your children think of playtime at Cardinal Newman.
Loose parts for our OPAL project have been arriving, from train track to baking trays! Thanks must also go to Walton Audi for delivering tyres, Paton of Walton on Cottimore Lane for pallets and CIT camping for tarpaulins.
We are now looking for:-
- builders sacks (those used for gravel or woodchip deliveries)
- plastic planters used to transport trees
- trowels
Finally, we are looking for parents with landscaping/gardening experience to advise the best way to clear some of the overgrown areas around the school to create new spaces for the children to play. Please contact the office if you can help.
Many Thanks
